Preparing for a cuddle session: expectations and boundaries
Good preparation reduces uncertainty. Before any session, each person needs to understand the framework, their boundaries and how they can change their mind.
Before asking for information
- Read what DrHugger is—and what it is not.
- Consider which forms of platonic contact interest you and which you do not want.
- Make sure you are aged 18 or over.
- Do not include a diagnosis, treatment history, account of trauma or other sensitive information in your initial enquiry.
Expectations
A session is not a date, a relationship, psychotherapy or a promise to change how you feel. Contact is optional, platonic and limited to what has been agreed with ongoing consent.
Clothing and personal comfort
Choose clean, comfortable everyday clothing that supports the platonic framework. Ask about any specific rules before confirmation. If something makes you uncomfortable, you can say so or stop.
The setting
For a session in Athens, first confirm the requirements for the setting, arrival, departure and safety. Do not send a home address through an unapproved form or public message.
A simple boundaries checklist
- What am I clearly comfortable with?
- What is not acceptable to me?
- Is there anything I want to be asked about again?
- What word will I use to pause or stop?
- How would I like the session to end?
Changing your mind
Your boundaries are not a fixed contract. You can change your mind before or during a session. Doing so creates no obligation or debt, and you do not need to explain why.
Do not proceed if you do not understand the terms, feel pressured, have not had identity or availability confirmed by a person, or encounter behaviour outside the platonic framework.
Continue with the guidelines on safety, consent and boundaries.
Three questions before a session
What would I like to discuss? What contact do I not want? How will I say that I need a pause? You do not need to share your personal history to set your boundaries.
